I would like to write a blog post in honor of the music and dancing of Michael Jackson, 1958-2009. I grew up dancing to Michael’s music in my basement. When “Thriller” first came out when I was six years old, I learned every zombie dance step by watching the video and performed the steps for my family to much applause and laughter. Michael’s unique style of movement made me first think about creating original steps and putting them to the music I loved.
UpBring performed many dances to the amazing music of Michael Jackson. His music and incredible style of movement has inspired the choreography of our teachers since the beginning of the company in 2001. His music was exciting and well suited in both language and tempo; we always wanted to fit in a Michael song no matter what the year’s theme – from Fairytale Fusion to the Future. Songs by Michael Jackson in UpBring dance pieces have included: Smooth Criminal, Wanna Be Startin Something, Bad, Beat It, and more. Most recently in 2009, Touring Company and TnT performed full length dance pieces to Michael Jackson music mixes for our “Dance Through the Decades” theme. As we continue to teach these dance pieces as part of Touring Company’s repertoire, we will forever remember the gift Michael Jackson gave to the dance community.

It was such a bad bad day. In the morning I heard about farrah and I never missed an episode of charlie angels. My hair of course like every other teenage girl was exactly like hers. Then to later hear in the day about michael – so out of nowhere was too much. I was working @ banana records in san francisco when “off the wall” came out. We could not keep the LP, yes the LP’s in stock. We will never ever see an entertainer like him again. He was suchan inovator on so many musical levels. The dancing, the videos, just the music. I just wish it could have been prevented

I thought of Nicki when I saw the news on the internet…I could NOT believe it…it wasn’t old enough to die. Of course when you are as well known as Michael was it is hard to have peace even in death, but I do wish that for him. I also think of this children and how hard this must be hitting them. He was a artist, I actually was listening to his some of his songs today and yesterday on one of the CD’s you made for me. When I heard the songs I even felt more lost. The more you are alive on this planet Earth, it seems like the more your heart breaks. Please let Nicki know I am very sorry. I am sure she had a ticket for his new tour or was trying to get one. Michael was still a star and will remain one forever.
